The Verge and Kotaku are reporting that Gary Bowser, one of the leaders of ‘Team Xecuter will be going to prison for 40 months for his role in developing “console hacking software and devices” which enabled the Nintendo Switch to play what was termed ‘pirated software devices.
Bowser was a leader and member of the group, “Team Executor” who has been responsible for software and hardware hacks for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, NES Classic Edition, Sony’s PlayStation Classic, and Microsoft’s Xbox. Accoring to court documents, Bowser’s role was to administer the websites which offered the devices and hacks for sale.
In a past October 2021 filing, Bowser pleaded guilty and agreed to pay $4.5 million in restitution to Nintendo of America, and another $10 million in December, 2021. This brings to end a saga, which started with his arrest in the Dominican Republic which ended up in his extradiction to the United States.
